KBL Round 29: Anyang defeat Suwon KT in the closest game of the week

Sixth-ranked Suwon KT (17-21) gave a tough game to first ranked Anyang (28-10) in Busan on Monday. The visitors from Anyang managed to secure only three-point victory 87-84. However their fans expected much easier game. Anyang looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American Omari Spellman (207-1997, college: Villanova) stepped up and scored 40 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds for the winners and the former international center Sek-Eun Oh (200-1987) chipped in 10 points and 9 rebounds. Hungarian-American power forward Jarrod Jones (207-1990, college: Ball St.) responded with 23 points and 8 rebounds. Suwon KT's coach Se-Woong Park rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Anyang have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with 28-10 record. Suwon KT at the other side keeps the sixth position with 21 games lost. Anyang are looking forward to face Mobis Phoebus (#3) in Ulsan in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Suwon KT will play on the road against Goyang in Daegu and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

The former international forward Guna Ra (203-1989, college: Missouri) nailed a double-double by scoring 32 points and 13 rebounds for the winning side and Woong Heo accounted for 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. American forward Dante Cunningham (203-1987, college: Villanova) came up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds for LG Sakers in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. KCC Egis maintains eighth place with 16-20 record. LG Sakers at the other side keep the second position with 14 games lost. KCC Egis will play against higher ranked Wonju DB (#7) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. LG Sakers will play against Seoul Thunders (#10) and hope to get back on the winning track.

Visiting Mobis Phoebus were defeated by Seoul Knights in a tough game in Seoul 68-73. The best player for the winners was Jameel Warney who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds. Gaige Prim produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Defending champion maintains fourth place with 21-17 record. Loser Mobis Phoebus keep the third position with 16 games lost. Seoul Knights will meet at home KoGas (#9) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Mobis Phoebus will play against the league's leader Anyang (#1) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 29: Wonju DB lost to Mobis Phoebus on the opponent's court 71-80. Seoul Knights managed to outperform Goyang in a home game 96-83. LG Sakers managed to beat KoGas on the road 108-102.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 27 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists by Assem Marei of LG Sakers.



KCC Egis - LG Sakers 87-64

Very expected game in Ulsan where 7th ranked Wonju DB (16-19) was defeated by third ranked Mobis Phoebus (22-16) 80-71 on Sunday. The best player for the winners was American forward Gaige Prim (203-1999, college: Missouri St.) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 14 rebounds. Filipino guard Rhon Jhay Abarrientos (181-1999) chipped in 23 points. The former international forward SangJae Kang (202-1994) produced 16 points and 9 rebounds and American forward Lennard Freeman (203-1995, college: NC State) added 18 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Mobis Phoebus maintains third place with 22-16 record having six points less than leader Anyang. Loser Wonju DB keeps the seventh position with 19 games lost. Mobis Phoebus will meet league's leader Anyang on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Wonju DB will play against KCC Egis (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

The game between closely ranked teams ended with fourth ranked Seoul Knights' (21-17) home victory over 5th ranked Goyang (18-19) 96-83 on Sunday. Seoul Knights dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Goyang's 34. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Goyang's players. The best player for the winners was American center Jameel Warney (203-1994, college: Stony Brook) who scored 29 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists (on 13-of-16 shooting from the field). The former international guard Sunh-Yung Kim (187-1988) chipped in a double-double by scoring 19 points, 12 assists and 4 steals. Four Seoul Knights players scored in double figures. American power forward Dedric Lawson (206-1997, college: Kansas) produced a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 16 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and the former international guard Seonghyen Jeon (190-1991) added 22 points respectively for the guests.
